A Sunrise Peyto Lake Elopement with a Picnic

Ideas + Inspo, Real Elopements

An intentional and peaceful mountain morning with Alanna & Alex during their magical sunrise Peyto Lake elopement

There’s something so grounding about a love story that unfolds slowly—like Alanna and Alex’s. These two started out as friends, spent years growing alongside one another, and eventually built the kind of partnership that feels unshakeable. When they decided to elope, they knew they wanted something meaningful, unscripted, and completely them. No stress. No pressure. Just an epic mountain backdrop, a quiet sunrise, and moments they’d remember forever.

And that’s exactly what we created.

Why They Chose to Elope in the Canadian Rockies

For Alanna and Alex, choosing to elope wasn’t just about avoiding the stress of a traditional wedding (though that was a bonus!). It was about doing things their way. They craved simplicity, freedom, and the chance to turn their wedding day into a once-in-a-lifetime adventure. Traveling across the country to the Canadian Rockies checked all the boxes: breathtaking views, peaceful solitude, and an unforgettable way to kick off their marriage—and their honeymoon.

A Sunrise Ceremony at Peyto Lake

We started the morning before the sun even touched the peaks, hiking out to one of the most iconic overlooks in Banff National Park—Peyto Lake. The air was crisp, the sky turned cotton candy pink, and the only sounds around us were the wind in the trees and their vows to one another. No distractions. No audience. Just two people promising forever with the glacier-fed lake shimmering below.

It was quiet. Intentional. And incredibly moving.

A Cozy Breakfast Picnic at Bow Lake

After their emotional sunrise ceremony, we made our way to Bow Lake—another gem of the Icefields Parkway. There, the couple shared a sweet little morning picnic with Rocky Mountain Bagels, hot coffee, and their wedding cake. Wrapped in cozy blankets, soaking in the views, they took the time to be present and just be together. It was slow, unrushed, and everything an elopement should be.

Seriously, who says you can’t have wedding cake for breakfast?

Their Story: From Friends to Forever

Alanna and Alex’s story is one built on years of friendship, late-night group hangs, and growing into who they were meant to be—together. They met through mutual friends and spent a lot of time getting to know each other before they took the leap into love. Their connection runs deep, and you feel it the moment you’re around them.

Alex shared how he was first drawn to Alanna’s beautiful smile and kind spirit. Over time, he saw just how generous, caring, and fun-loving she truly is. “She’s always willing to help the people in her life,” he said. “That’s the kind of person she is.”

Alanna described Alex as someone with a huge heart—a bit quiet and awkward at first, but deeply loyal, funny, and driven. “He’s a go-getter, always striving to do his best. He’s the realist to my dreamer,” she told me. “Alex listens, supports, and is always there to hold my hand through every bump in the road.”

Even their golden retriever, Daisy, shares their love for the outdoors (though sadly, she had to stay home for this adventure).

Why Peyto and Bow Lake?

The couple envisioned mountains, water, and greenery for their elopement day—nothing too intense, just something that felt aligned with who they are. Peyto Lake offered the dreamy alpine backdrop for their vows, and Bow Lake gave us the perfect peaceful setting for a slow, meaningful morning together. And since they chose a sunrise elopement, they had the rest of the day ahead of them to soak in their surroundings without feeling rushed.

Thinking About Eloping in Banff?

If you’re dreaming of exchanging vows somewhere quiet and breathtaking like this, sunrise in Banff National Park is hard to beat. Peyto and Bow Lake are two of the most stunning (and accessible!) locations along the Icefields Parkway, and combining them makes for a truly well-rounded elopement day: one that blends adventure, serenity, and plenty of time to just be together.
