Why Full-Day Elopement Photography Matters

I get it—booking a photographer for your full-day (or even multi-day) elopement might seem like a lot at first. But the truth? Your elopement is so much more than just a quick “I do.” It’s your love story unfolding in the most intimate, adventurous, and intentional way—and it deserves to be captured from start to finish.

From getting ready in your cozy cabin to exchanging vows on a mountaintop, exploring hidden trails, sharing a picnic by the lake, popping champagne, dancing under the stars… every piece of your day is part of the story. And those unscripted, in-between moments? They’re often the ones you’ll cherish the most.

Full-day or multi-day coverage allows you to slow down and be fully present. It gives space for spontaneity, connection, and everything that makes your elopement uniquely yours. Years from now, you’ll flip through your album or scroll through your gallery and feel it all over again—just as wild, emotional, and real as it was.

Because your day isn’t just about the ceremony. It’s about the whole adventure.

How Long Should You Hire an Elopement Photographer For?

When you’re dreaming up your elopement, think about the moments that matter most to you—the ones you know you’ll want to relive again and again. Getting ready in your cozy Airbnb? Saying your vows with the mountains as your witness? Sharing a quiet meal together after a day of adventure? Every piece of your day is part of your story.

Now ask yourself—how long will it all take? Don’t forget to factor in travel time between locations, hiking time if you’re chasing views, or simply moments of pause where you can soak it all in without feeling rushed.

Most of my couples book 8–10 hours of coverage. Why? Because elopements aren’t just a ceremony—they’re an experience. That time allows space for getting ready, portraits, the ceremony, adventuring together, and your version of a celebration (yes, even if that’s dancing by a campfire or popping champagne on the beach at sunset).

Planning a sunrise hike that takes a few hours each way? You’ll likely want the full 10 hours so nothing gets missed—and you won’t feel like you’re racing the clock.

Still unsure how much time you need? I’ve got you. I help all my couples build intentional timelines that match their vibe and vision—so the photography fits seamlessly into your day, not the other way around.

Tips for Planning Your Elopement

Here are a few gentle reminders and helpful tips to keep in mind as you plan your elopement day—so it feels as intentional, free-spirited, and you as possible.

1. Your Elopement Deserves to Be Valued
This is the day you marry your best friend, your adventure partner, your person. Just because you’re eloping doesn’t mean it’s “less than.” In fact, it’s the opposite—it’s deeply personal and meaningful. Your elopement deserves to be celebrated, documented, and fully felt. Don’t be afraid to dream big and create a day that feels wildly magical to the two of you.

2. Plan for the Moments That Matter
Want to canoe on the lake where you got engaged? Hike to the spot you first said “I love you”? Sip champagne on a mountaintop or dance barefoot on the beach? Let’s carve out time for it. Even if you’re unsure what you’ll be in the mood for day-of, build some space into your timeline for spontaneity. Those unscripted moments often turn into the best memories.

3. Give Yourself Wiggle Room
When planning your timeline or deciding how many hours of photography you’ll need, don’t forget to factor in transition time. Whether you’re driving between spots, taking a gondola, or getting a safety briefing before a heli ride—give yourself breathing room. Your day should feel spacious, not rushed.

4. Don’t Let Other Opinions Steer Your Day
This one’s my favorite tip: kindly tune out the noise. Your elopement is about you two. If someone offers unsolicited advice, a simple, kind response is:
“Thanks so much for your suggestion—we’ve planned our day in a way that feels right for us.”
No drama, no guilt—just love and boundaries
