Thinking about your dream Elopement, what location comes to your mind? It most likely does not include large crowds or a very public place where others could interfere with your special moment.

A lot of locations too Elope in Alberta can be fairly touristy. I am going to share 12 Amazing locations to Elope in Alberta with you! While some locations are known for having tourists, other locations are hidden away.

12 Adventurous and Intimate Locations to Elope in Alberta

Take a moment to think…

Planning your Elopement is a lot less stress than planning a Wedding but there are still a few things to think about.

- What do you envision your day to be like?
- Where do you want to Elope?
- Will it just be the two of your or will a few friends/family members be joining?
- What season are you wanting to Elope?

You will most likely be hiring a photographer for your memorable day. With that being said, it is best to hire one that does Elopements a decent amount. They will be able to direct you to some of the BEST locations to Elope that aren’t normally found on blogs or the internet. Photographers always have hidden gems since they spend hours finding the perfect locations!

12 Locations to Elope in Alberta:

1. Athabasca Day Use Area - Jasper National Park

The Athabasca day use area is just outside of Jasper National Park. It is located right beside the field where small airplanes can land. This location is perfect if you don’t want to do any sort of hiking or if you’re having someone attend that can’t walk far. The location is right beside the Athabasca River with a stunning view of the mountains! Since the location is tucked behind the trees most people don’t know about it, meaning there is a lot of privacy. There is a short commute of 5 minutes to get to Jasper where you can have your celebratory dinner.

2. Pyramid Lake - Jasper National Park

Pyramid lake is about a 5 minute drive out of Jasper but it is a tourist hot spot! If you’re hoping to avoid the crowds I suggest going there during the off season or a weekday. There will still be some people around but there won’t be as many! I have found the best time to go to Pyramid Lake is for sun rise. The early morning glow against the mountains cannot be beat. This is also a great location for anyone who doesn’t want to do a hike or can’t walk very far. Following your special moment together you can even rent a canoe or paddle boat and go around the lake! You will get to embrace your new life adventure together. Pyramid Lake also has a hotel right across from the lake to make your stay even easier. If you’re not into hotels they have cabins near by too.

3. Off the Road - Jasper National Park

Are you looking for a location to Elope that is very private and has a small but easy hike? This is one of my all time favourite locations in Alberta to Elope. About 10-15 minutes out of Jasper near Talbot Lake is this incredible spot. You can Elope right by the water or you can do a short and easy hike to the top. The hike is no more than 20 minutes depending on your skill level. It is very private as most people do not know how to get to the top. I would not recommend this spot if you’re bringing along people who struggle with easy hikes! Don’t forget to bring your picnic to the top because you’ll want to snack on some delicious food.

4. Edith Lake - Jasper National Park

Edith Lake is a wonderful location if you’re looking for a beautiful but easy location to get to. Edith lake has a ton of parking and paths which makes it easily accessible. This is a good location if you don’t want to go for a hike or if you have someone who is unable to walk far. Keeping in mind, while it’s easily accessible, it is just that. I would suggest Eloping at this location during the off season or early sunrise/sunset. There are tourist here but not as many as other locations in Jasper such as Pyramid Lake. I personally suggest bringing a canoe for you to float around after you tie the knot!

5. The Little Church - Drumheller

The little church in Drumheller is a great spot to Elope. It’s in the middle of the badlands which can be a very intimate location. The church itself is very easily accessible. You can drive and park right beside it and walk in. The church only holds 6 people at a time! If you don’t want to Elope inside the church there are many paths around to walk, climb and Elope at the top of. Keep in mind - if you plan to walk and climb the paths they can be difficult for some people. You will want good footwear so you don’t slip from all of the sand!

6. Quarry Lake - Canmore

Quarry lake is a stunning location with a bright blue lake surrounded by mountains. The best part about eloping here is that it is super close to the town of Canmore which makes it easily accessible. There is also a dog park right beside it so it is pet friendly! The best time to go here is spring - fall months and the sunrises and sunsets are incredible!

7. spray lakes - canmore / kananaskis

Spray lakes is a beautiful spot to elope if you’re looking for an area that is super quiet and tucked away from all of the tourists. It is completely surrounded by mountains and the “lake” is actually a reservoir . Making it bright blue! This area has camping so you can even camp and elope in the same spot! It is HIGHLY recommended to stay out of the “lake” so if you’re looking to go canoeing, kayaking etc for your elopement it is best to find a safer lake.

8. Cascade Gardens - Banff National Park

Cascade gardens is another wonderful place to Elope in Alberta if you’re wanting a beautiful scenery. It is located in the heart of Banff National Park with very easy access. Cascade Gardens can be busy depending on the time of the year but they have many gazebos and gardens to Elope at. If you’re not wanting to do a hike this is a perfect spot! With this location being in the heart of Banff you can walk to a restaurant for dinner!

9. Kananaskis

I stumbled upon this incredible location last year and I just knew it would be a perfect spot for an elopement! This is tucked away in the Kananaskis. You can go above (top of the hill) and look down to see the incredible views. You can easily access that part by parking in the parking lot! You can also so a small hike/walk down to the area shown in the photos to be in a large field with mountains in the back! This is the best of both worlds if you want a field and mountains! I found this location to be busier than expected but there is plenty of room to tuck away into a more private area for your ceremony / vows etc. Note - there is a lot of wildlife in this area roaming free so you can expect to see billy goats and such

9. Cabin - Nordegg

Eloping at a cabin in Nordegg is a beautiful location. It’s easily accessible, it’s a fun and romantic hideaway for the two of you. If you plan to bring along others you’re able to get a bigger cabin and celebrate together! With the location being in Nordegg there are plenty of mountain views and lakes around if you want the best of both worlds. Nordegg is a very quite location so there will be plenty of privacy for you all!

10. Windy Point - Abraham Lake, Nordegg

This is a prime location as you can drive right to the spot and be beside the bright blue lake to Elope! Depending on the time of the year you go, there can be a decent amount of people but nothing like going to the hot spots in the Rocky Mountains! If you’re not looking to do a hike or go far this is a perfect location in Alberta to Elope. I’m sure the name of the place gives it away but it is a bit windy in this spot!

11. Elk island cabins

Elk island is a hidden gem tucked outside of the Fort Sask area. There are cabins, geod omes and yurts to stay in! There’s fields to adventure into, a ceremony location and you can head into Elk Island park where there is a lake! You can also elope at or around the lake if you’re hoping for water. You’re able to canoe / kayake in the lake as well! Elk Island Cabins are perfect if you’re looking for laid back and a romantic time!

12. Your Backyard

When it comes down to Eloping you don’t have to do an adventurous escape. It can simply be in the backyard of your home! There is something so beautiful and special about Eloping at your home. It gives it extra meaning to your day! This is usually the easiest option if you’re wanting to invite others, not go for a hike or have a spectacular view.

That’s it, now it’s time to pick the perfect location for you to Elope at in Alberta!

No matter what you decide on, your day will be memorable and special to you both. Often times couples pick on a spot they’ve never been to before so they have a special location!
