What is an Elopement?

Elopements are known for “running away” and tying the knot then coming back and announcing to everyone.

Over the years Elopements have changed from that to only having a select few experience the day with you or telling others your plans prior to. It’s no longer running away, it is typically a planned event what is unique to your love and journey together.

You will need the following for a legal Elopement in British Columbia:

  1. A Marriage Licence - The form will cost you $100 and you should get it no later than 1-2 months in advance just incase something comes up. You can get one HERE

  2. An Officiant - You will need an officiant to help you tie the knot! You can find info about Officiants HERE and to find one in the location you want to Elope HERE

Best Locations to Elope in Vancouver Island

Tofino - characterized by wild natural scenery including lakes, inlets and ancient rainforest. Sandy beaches with year-round surfing facilities include Cox Bay, Chesterman Beach and popular Long Beach, part of the Pacific Rim National Park Reserve.

East Sooke Park - Scenic area with marked trails, small beaches & picnic sites, plus coastal & mountain views.

Mystic Beach - Mystic Beach is a 45 minute hike from the parking lot through ancient forests and well-maintained paths. There is a suspension bridge about half way.

Mount Douglas Park - It takes about 40 minutes to climb up Mount Douglas and it is worth it for the views. It is considered a “hard” trail on All trails however I find it to be more of a “moderate” hike. There are many different routes to get to the top with many spots along the way for resting.

Neck Point Park - Destination waterfront park for Nanaimo and the region. The park is recognized as an environmentally sensitive area and is well known in the community for its historic, scenic and natural features.

Saxe Point Park - Coastal park with sea & sunset views from lookouts, picnic spots in meadows & a secluded beach.

These are just some of the amazing outdoor locations you can tie the knot at.
