Kananaskis Hiking Elopement

West Wind Pass Trail Elopement

This Kananaskis Hiking Elopement was one for the books! Mikala and Michael reached out to me about their Kananaskis Elopement at the beginning of the year. They have a great love for Alberta so they travelled all the way from Ontario to stay their “I do’s” at the top of the mountain!

Hiking Elopement in the Kananaskis

Mikala and Michael expressed to me their joy of hiking the beautiful mountains in Alberta. They knew they wanted to do that for their Elopement! When I help each of my couples find the perfect location for them to say their vows I ask what is most important for them based on the look. For these two they wanted the mountain ridges and lake views! While doing some research I stumbled upon West Wind Pass Trail. It was a quick but moderate/difficult hike but had everything they requested. The views of this location is beyond breathtaking and you can see Spray Lake in the distance from the top!

Weather in the Kananaskis

Weather in the Kananaskis is unpredictable at times. I always tell couples to come prepared for all 4 seasons, summer, spring, fall and winter because you never know what you will get! During Mikala and Michaels Hiking Elopement in the Kananaskis it started off hot and humid. While hiking to the top with a steady incline we were boiling and shedding layers but once we reached the top it was WINDY. I’m sure you suspected that from the name of the trail! The wind was nice to break from the boiling hot weather of the summer. Later in the evening it began to rain a bit so we embraced it. On the way down the trail it started to get humid and hot again which was nice after being a bit chilly.

The Elopement Day

Mikala and Michael hiked up the mountain in their regular hiking attire and at the top changed into their wedding attire. The hair and makeup stylist made the hike with us to provide some extra touch ups for the couple as needed. They opted for a first look so once they were all ready to go they had an intimate moment together for the first look. Once they soaked up those moments they found their perfect spot for their vows! It was hidden in the trees to be blocked from the wind but still had the incredible views. Following their lovely vows they had their first dance overlooking Spray Lakes with champagne at the end! I captured some precious moments between the couple before we made our ascend to the vehicles. At the bottom we signed papers to make everything official and said our goodbyes for now! This hiking elopement was incredible and I am thankful for being apart of their memorable day.
